The Colonial Estate - Exodus Chardonnay 2017

  • Variety: Single Vineyard Chardonnay
    Region: Eden Valley (Barossa Valley)

    Winemaker's Notes

  • Colour: Pale green in colour with pure, clean and powerful fruit intensity.

  • Bouquet: It has rich melon, nectarine and some more complex smoky hints while secondary aromatics of nutty oak glide through without being overly obvious. Every character plays their role creating a really brilliantly fresh vibrant and appealing bouquet.

  • Palate: Tightly focused in its youth but the depth of flavour, complexity and acid will ensure aging potential. As you would expect, lively citrus opens you up to a world filled with grapefruit, nectarine and melon. The developing flavours are fig, honey and a kiss of oak and lees.

  • Cellaring: Drinking well now or can be cellared for the next 3-5 years.

  • Serving Suggestions: Enjoy with Roast chicken or roast pork with a buttery applesauce.

    Winemaking Details

  • Picked in February the fruit was harvested in small batches to minimise the fruit losses and ensure only the finest parcels were selected. The wine underwent fermentation with 12% receiving oak fermentation with frequent lees stirring which developed more complexity. The two parcels were kept separated this vintage with only the 12% receiving oak maturation in second and third use French oak barrels then selected barrels were blended together with unoaked portions and bottled to ensure only the finest wine made the final blend.

  • Alcohol 12.5%
